CWW for Non-Exempts
Previous Next

The “9/80” schedule  An employee can also work a “9/80” schedule consisting of four 9-hour days for two consecutive weeks plus eight hours on one day of one week. This allows an additional day off every other week. The examples show an employee taking the scheduled day off midweek or near the weekend. The challenge with this issue for non-exempt staff is that it creates two weeks of unequal hours: 36 hours (four roughly 9-hour days) and 44 (five roughly 9-hour days). This creates 4 hours of automatic overtime in the longer week, an outcome most employers do not want to allow. A solution used by many companies is to change the official start of the workweek from Saturday or Sunday to noon on Friday, thus evening out the weeks.
