Myths and Realities

Compressed workweeks, like other FWAs, can be challenging to implement. An employee wanting to propose a compressed workweek and a manager considering that proposal will face a unique cluster of issues.  Below are four common myths concerning CWWs. Click on each to see what decision-makers should consider.

Myth #1
Exempt employees all work long hours and have very
unpredictable workloads; they are not good candidates for CWWs.

Myth #2
:
If I let exempt employees work a compressed workweek,
I’ll actually be cutting their hours and contribution.

Myth #3
CWW employees are going to insist on taking their
scheduled days off whether it hurts the business or not.

Myth #4
Employees don’t have the capacity to handle the long
days necessary for compressed schedules.
